 REDAM Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Who can receive services from REDAM?

All students at Ibn Haldun University can benefit from REDAM’s psychological counseling services.

2. How can I make an appointment with REDAM?

Applications are accepted via the application form available on the website. After your application is reviewed, we will contact you as soon as possible to schedule your first session. To schedule an appointment, simply fill out the application form found under the Contact and Application tab on the REDAM website.

3. Do I need to do anything special to prepare for the first session?

No. You do not need to do any special preparation before the first session. It is enough to feel at ease and think about the topics you’d like to discuss.

4. How long do the sessions last?

Individual psychological counseling sessions last an average of 45–50 minutes. If necessary, this duration can be adjusted by the counselor.

5. How many counseling sessions can I receive?

The number of sessions varies depending on the reason for seeking counseling, individual needs, and progress during the counseling process. Following the initial sessions, your counselor will work with you to develop an appropriate counseling plan.

6. Are the sessions fee-based?

No. All psychological counseling services provided at REDAM are free of charge.

7. Are the sessions confidential?

Yes. All information shared during the psychological counseling process is kept confidential in accordance with ethical principles and relevant legislation. Your information will not be shared with third parties without your explicit consent. However, in exceptional cases where there are legal and ethical obligations—such as a risk of serious harm to the individual or others—confidentiality may be limited.

8. Can my family or someone else participate in the sessions?

Psychological counseling is an individual process. The inclusion of another person in the process can only be arranged if deemed necessary and with your explicit consent.

9. Is online psychological counseling available?

Online sessions may be scheduled when deemed appropriate. You will be provided with information regarding current practices during the application process.

10. What should I do if I cannot attend my appointment?

You are expected to notify us as soon as possible if you cannot attend your appointment. This allows the time slot to be made available to other applicants. If possible, it is recommended that you provide notice at least 24 hours in advance of the session.

11. Can the session still take place if I’m late for my appointment?

It is important to arrive on time for your appointment. If you are late, the session may be shortened, or a new appointment may be scheduled depending on your counselor’s availability.

12. Do I need to have a psychiatric diagnosis to receive psychological counseling?

No. Psychological counseling services are not limited to individuals with psychiatric diagnoses. You can also receive psychological counseling support for a wide range of issues, such as difficulties encountered in daily life, stress, decision-making processes, personal development, and increasing life satisfaction.

13. Can I choose my counselor?

Client preferences are taken into account as much as possible. At REDAM, individual psychological counseling is offered in both Turkish and English.

14. Are the sessions recorded?

No. Sessions are not routinely recorded, either by audio or video. In cases where recording is necessary for educational or scientific purposes, you will be informed in advance, and no recording will be made without your written consent.

15. Can I end the psychological counseling process whenever I want?

Yes. Psychological counseling is a voluntary service. You may end the process at any time. However, to ensure the process is concluded in a healthy manner, it is recommended that you discuss this decision with your counselor.

16. Do I need to complete my counseling process at REDAM to receive a discounted appointment at IPAM?

Yes. To take advantage of the discounted psychological counseling services offered by IPAM to Ibn Haldun University students, you must have completed your counseling process at REDAM and initiated your counseling process at IPAM with a specialist’s referral.
